Product Description

You’ve weeded, planted your annuals and bulbs and laid a thick layer of brown, black or red mulch only to see it fade to a dry, sickly bone gray within the first season. Why is it that some types of mulches can fade so quickly? Natural, organically sourced woods will fade quickly and, although there are a number of contributing factors, extremes weather and exposure to sunlight are the leading culprits of faded mulch. Fortunately for you, Solarfast™ Mulch Dye is exactly what you need to bring the color back to your faded mulch. But, how does it work? Read on and discover why our revolutionary, premium quality Solarfast™ Mulch Dye is the answer to your gardening prayers.

How Mulch Is Made

All colored, wood-based mulches are made with a four-step process. With a deeper understanding of that process, it becomes clear why you should put your trust in the quality and performance of Solarfast™ Mulch Dyes. In brief, the steps of mulch manufacturing are as follows:

  • Step 1: Recycled wood is ground at a processing facility that creates smaller wood fibers also known as bare mulch.
  • Step 2: The wood is then dried. Living wood and freshly felled, green timber contains copious amounts of water. In addition to drying the wood, this step also ensures that the mulch is pest and pathogen-free.
  • Step 3: The dried, bare mulch next enters a coloring system wherein super-concentrated, environmentally sound colorants are mixed with water which is used to treat the wood fibers.
  • Step 4: The dyed mulch is dried and cured again so that the colorant completely encapsulates the wood.

Solarfast™ Black MCH is a colorant used to restore faded mulch back to its original color. It is environmentally friendly and does not contain hazardous chemicals, heavy metals or other ingredients that are known to be harmful to the environment. Solarfast™ Black MCH is quick, easy, and economical for improving your landscape's overall appearance.

Use It on The Following Types of Mulch

  • Cedar
  • Cypress

  • Oak
  • Rubber Mulch

Directions for Use

In four, simple steps you'll be able to enhance the look of your landscaping, tree pits, and garden beds.

  1. Plan Ahead: Remove any weeds or debris from the mulch and rake if necessary. For optimal results, apply the dye when the mulch is dry. Apply when no rain is forecast for 24 hours to allow sufficient drying time. Avoid windy conditions to prevent drift and overspray.
  2. Protect Your Surroundings: Spread plastic sheeting over walkways and driveways. Use a sheet of cardboard or spray shield to mask areas you don’t want to color. Wear gloves and old clothing. The dye will stain like paint.
  3. Mix the Dye with Water: Use a garden sprayer that can hold at least 2 gallons of liquid. Pour the water into the tank before adding the dye. Make a mixture of 1 part dye to 10 parts water. Shake the tank to mix the dye and water thoroughly to ensure even color coverage. Mix enough to color the entire area before beginning the application.
  4. Spray the Dye on the Mulch: For consistent coverage, maintain a distance of 6-8 inches between the sprayer head and the mulch. Spray back and forth, slightly overlapping each pass to prevent bare spots.
